Malay Cultural Society

Synopsis of Malay Cultural Society

The Malay Cultural society had been in existence since the inception of Dunearn Secondary School in 1962. From a humble beginning of 20 members, its membership has increase steadily over the years. Currently, our membership stands at 55 members from Secondary One to Five. Regular practices were held twice a week on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Members were given training in dancing, dikir barat, kompang, drama and debate. Ever since its inception, its members had participated in numerous school concerts, public performances and national competitions. This year, our members took part in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for Malay Dance and clinched a Silver Award. Our members also participated in the Inter-School Debate organized by Berita Harian and performed commendably. Recently, our members participated in the Inter-School Artistic Poetry Competition and won second placing including the ‘Most Creative team Award’. With greater commitment and enthusiasm of its members, we hope to soar to even greater heights in years to come.
